Volunteer Opportunities

Join us in making a difference this winter season

Overnight Shelter Support Needed

The Joshua House Warming Shelter in Newport is seeking caring, reliable volunteers to help staff the shelter overnight this winter season. The shelter, located at 501 Pleasant Street, provides a safe, warm place to sleep for up to eight guests each night during the cold-weather months (November–April).

Volunteers will:

  • Be present at the shelter overnight to ensure a welcoming, safe environment
  • Assist guests with basic needs and follow established shelter guidelines
  • Work alongside other volunteers to open, close, and maintain the space

Training for the role will be 2 consecutive nights from 6:00-8:00 at the Warming Shelter on November 19 & 20. Food will be provided.

This is a volunteer/unpaid role — but one that offers a chance to make a direct, meaningful difference in the lives of community members experiencing homelessness during Vermont's harsh winter.

If you can commit to one or more nights per week (or even occasionally), please contact Victoria LaGuardia to learn more or sign up.
